PLAY FOR SECOND by The Jarrod Murphy Collective - Official Music Video
The Jarrod Murphy Collective (The JMC) BIO WEB LINKS https://bit.ly/3Lunvi9 Lyrics PLAY FOR SECOND Written by Jarrod Murphy & Ivan Adcock Roll the Dice Play the card Toy with my ace of heart Always falling down ladders And curling up with snakes I never learn from my mistakes My game, making rules up on the fly I stay, because I’ve almost always lied We may forever lose but the win is just the same I play for second, that’s my game I always hate when we’re apart Old Kent Road to Marlborough Passing go might fill the gap But a good chance is what I lack (A dealer for hire) Cut the deck and shuffle back (Red or Black, who’s the buyer) Yeah I always hate the joker card Knights always taken from the start Always falling down ladders And curling up with snakes I never learn from my mistakes INFORMATION about The JMC What do we sound like? Some say that it’s Crowded House meets Wilco. We reckon that just about nails it. Classic songwriting, poetic lyrics, delivered with class and swagger with sophisticated musicianship, all through a country swing filter. Who are we? Jarrod (the Jarrod Murphy of The JMC) is a long time singer songwriter in the Neil Finn/Paul McCartney type ocean. Previous bands have been Pelican Jed, Major, SMLXL, The Cops. This is the time for Jarrod to take the lead and put his name to it. Jarrod is joined by Simon Harrison on Drums bringing his cowboy grin and expressive rhythmic talents, Ivan Adcock on Keys colouring the sound with thoughtful prowess accompaniment, and Carlos Pedro keeping it solid and groovy on Bass. Where are we? We are based out of Brisbane Australia. LATEST RELEASE A Side PLAY FOR SECOND An original song co-written by Jarrod and Ivan. Giving off mellow country vibes with a Hey Jude kinda song, poetic lyrics that lament on not needing to come first and happily playing for second place, with retro cards and games references, delivered with a beautifully recorded and soulfully expressed classic timeless sound. This song is a proud debut showing that what is to come from The JMC will be excellent. B Side BELIEVE A cover version of the Cher classic ‘Believe’. This is a full reinterpretation with a singer/songwriter approach, coloured with a little country swing, arranged and delivered with a whole new appreciation of this brilliant song.

Change To Survive - SMLXL (small - medium - large - x-large) OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO
This is the first track released by SMLXL the Australian band. https://smlxl.bandcamp.com/releases https://www.facebook.com/JarrodMurphyMusician/ www.smlxlmusic.com.au SMLXL biography: SMLXL (small medium large x-large) was a band formed in 1998 (ish) and recorded many demos and played a few shows. It was born out of the ashes of somewhat known Sydney indie band Pelican Jed (Jarrod Murphy and Jason de Wilde) and along with Ged Verus on bass and Mike Barwick on drums, they were thought to have a lot of potential with their angular take on melodic/sonic guitar pop. Think XTC meets Split Enz, somewhere around that anyway. Mike Barwicks untimely and tragic death in a car accident pulled the breaks on what was a very promising song writing team, with Jarrod’s writing steering the ship. Mikes death saw the boys go off in a few directions, but Jason and Jarrod always knew there was unfinished business for SMLXL. So after collaborating on some music projects they have decided to pull together an album of what they certainly consider to be their most accomplished works to date. The whole effort is hoped to be completed by the end of 2016. The first cab off the rank is a drifting lush bold song call ‘Change To Survive’. The tracks on the album see Jarrod and Jason writing, recording and performing most of the instruments and vocals, with some guitar, keyboard and bass tracks laid down by some of their friends and favourite musicians. Both Jarrod and Jason are heavily influenced by band like XTC, Talking Heads and the Cure, but it’s their shared love of the harmonic pop legends Jellyfish that really solidifies their music common ground. Along with throwing in plenty of Neil Finn and Elvis Costello, the SMLXL sound is a mash of all great melodic guitar driven pop, with the outcome being something slick and unique. An interesting trait of this project is that Jarrod is based in Queensland and Jason is in New South Wales. The recordings are via correspondence, with Jarrod writing and recording demo versions of the songs using MIDI and live tracking. These demos form the basis of the songs and the tracks are replace, layer by layer with live musicians, both in Jason’s elaborate Sydney studio and Jarrod’s Sunshine Coast home studio. These tracks are passed back and forth between the guys until they get to a point of completion. Then Jason waves some fairy dust over it and out pops SMLXL. This process has seen some ‘song casualties’ thrown to the way side whilst others have withstood the rigors of the over analysing and fine tuning. This process has allowed for multiple layers within each track offering depth and interest to the astute listener, whilst maintaining the accessible basis of the song in all of its ‘verse / chorus / middle eight’ glory. It is intended that each song will be released with its own video clip, starting with the first song ‘Change To Survive’ being accompanied by a slow motion wonder through an op shop and the streets of a town. SMLXL are available through Facebook, Youtube, Bandcamp and their own website www.smlxlmusic.com.au so please follow SMLXL and stay in touch for the enjoyment of this great music project. Cheers

Too Far - SMLXL
‘Too Far’ is the second single from SMLXL. This is another mellow little number with a flourishing piano performance and a somber sentiment. www.smlxlmusic.com.au https://www.facebook.com/JarrodMurphyMusician/?ref=bookmarks SMLXL (small medium large x-large) was a band formed in 1998 (ish) and recorded many demos and played a few shows. There’s a lie riding shotgun at the edge of the world Once was thought as being flat not round… Everything changes given time The truth between ages are often lies We found a new planet, DNA’s the smoking gun Play the game play the people, Play the piper that leads Off into an unknown distance into those that bleed Blood for one, blood for all love’s in deficiency Modern times don’t count for much the news as we watch Everything changes given time The truth between ages are often lies And we found a new planet, DNA’s the smoking gun Now and then I sit back and think of wasting the days I rely on the memories to make sense of the haze Everything changes given time The truth between ages are often lies And we found a new planet DNA’s the smoking gun Insights into what it’s all about: Another song that has lived in some what for a long time and found its way into many incarnations. This is the last and the best, now to leave it alone and set it free. It’s inception was in driving along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria Australia and seeing the ‘Twelve Apostles’ rock formation towering out of the ocean water and then the very next day one of them crashed down into the water…. Basic erosion of course but it made the words ‘everything changes’ pop into my head… Nothing stays the same and everything inevitably changes. SMLXL is: Jarrod Murphy – Vocals / Instruments / Song writing Jason de Wilde – Guitars / Production / Mixing / Studio trickery Andrew Tolhurst - Guitars

Caught Up In This World - by SMLXL - 2018
New release by SMLXL Lyrics Caught Up In This World Seems like these not far to go All generations have put you right here Smile at that for a start Navigation of a storm, a perfect storm Angles debris in the path Hatch is closed huddled in the dark I’ve seen you from upstairs and down All medications fog up the glass That frown above, your eyes so dark Face the past get caught up in this world Be here now get caught up in this world I’m here if you want me I’m here if you need Get caught up in this world, caught up in this world. All roads lead you to home Self-medicating, hating the one you become We don’t have to paint the red town So come my love, this is all you have Face the past, get caught up in this world Now is now, get caught up in this world. I’m here when you want me I’m here when you need Get caught up in this world, caught up in this world Far away in the dark, missing a spark, hoping to find a way Hard wading through mud, sinking and falling, falling Seems like, there’s not far to go All roads lead you to home Download at our band camp site https://smlxl.bandcamp.com/ and please head over to our facebook page and like/share/enjoy https://www.facebook.com/SMLXLmusic/ Visit our website https://www.smlxlmusic.com.au/

Kristy G - Official Music Video - from the LP release titled 'SIZE'
SMLXL LP release ‘SIZE’ . ‘KRISTY G’ is the first single. SMLXL is, Jarrod Murphy, Jason de Wilde and Andy Tolhurst. The band originally formed some 20 years ago, disbanded and pursued other music ventures, and are now back with an epic album chock full of layered power-pop tracks with hooks galore. Jason and Andy are based in Sydney (NSW) and Jarrod is in the Sunshine Coast (QLD). This whole album has been crafted by passing the tracks back and forth between them, layer upon layer, tracking in multiple locations. The result is a sonic hook laden feast for the discerning guitar pop fan. The three lads formed the Sydney indie pop band Pelican Jed in the 1990s, to much acclaim and lots of touring. Jarrod and Jason then formed the original incarnation of SMLXL. Jarrod was busy through the 2000s fronting the harmony driven indie band Major, releasing two LPs and lots of touring. Then in mid 2000s Jarrod joined the seminal Sydney indie champs ‘The Cops’ and contributed to the acclaimed album ‘Drop It In Their Laps’ with tracks ‘Call Me Anytime’ and ‘The Message’ appearing in the 2006/7 Triple J Hottest 100s. SMLXLs latest single ‘KRISTY G’ showcases the stomping pop that is all over the ‘SIZE’ LP. ‘KRISTY G’ pounds with a classic power pop intensity and is layered with guitar hooks and the story of ‘love and must have’ at first sight. It’s a song that is destined to be a classic and a go to for lovers of early 80s influenced angular sounds of XTC and Elvis Costello. SMLXLs 2016 EP release ‘the LINKS EP’ was described by Divide and Conquer Music as ‘…immersive, dramatic, ironic and comfortably eclectic…’ SMLXL are intent on delivering many albums to come over the next few years to satisfy their own fanatical love of layered, orchestrated and angular guitar pop tastes. Jason is a recording studio wiz with many years of experience, Andy is a brilliant and exciting unique guitarist with an approach to avoid guitar clichés, and Jarrod is a formidable and prolific songwriter with a gift for melody and a vocal delivery that is on point and energised. SMLXL can’t wait for this new album to be devoured by guitar pop fans.
